Zoning Certificate of Occupancy

A zoning certificate of occupancy is a permit that approves a change in use or a new use of land, building or unit in accordance with the city's zoning by-laws. 

Required documents and drawings:

Floor Plan

  • Drawings must be to scale and show a True North arrow.

  • All areas are to be labeled as to specific use and activity.

  • Dimensions of the unit to be provided.

  • All rooms are to be dimensioned.

  • Exterior walls and partitions are to be dimensioned.

Site Plan

  • Drawing must be to scale and show a True North arrow.

  • Building address.

  • Adjacent properties and building setbacks are to be shown.

  • Property lines must be shown and labeled.

  • Building dimensions must be provided.

  • Dimensions for all units must be shown.

  • Unit to be used for the proposed use must be identified.

  • Parking stall and driveway width must be dimensioned.

  • Loading spaces must be shown and dimensioned.

  • Outline of proposed work shown hatched and labeled.

  • Site statistics.

Elevations (if applicable)

  • Dimensions and height of the building must be shown.

  • Dimensions of eave overhang.

  • Location of all windows and doors to be shown.
